President’s Cabaret 2019

Merrylands RSL held its Annual President’s Cabaret on 27 Nov 2019 where the Club formally presented donations and contributions to the community.

This year was particularly rewarding as it included a concerted focus on helping out our country cousins, by raising much-needed funds to support the BUY A BALE campaign led by Rural Aid.

From September 2018 to June this year, Merrylands RSL saw the need to ensure the sustainability of the great country by raising an impressive $30,000 for the BUY A BALE campaign. This was achieved through staff weekly salary deductions, selected Auction items and donation boxes. This amount was then happily matched by the Merrylands RSL board of directors, doubling the donation to a massive $60,000.

Rural Aid’s General Manager Wayne Thomson was present on the night and gave a speech about the impact of Merrylands RSL’s contribution to farmers affected by drought, while also reading an emotional thank you letter from one of the farmers in Orange who received a share of the Club’s donation.

This year, Merrylands RSL Club together with Club Umina has donated nearly $885,000 in club grants funding and The Club also recognised some of the key beneficiaries and their efforts during the night.  A total of 52 organisations were able to receive support from Merrylands RSL Club and Club Umina this year alone. Some of those beneficiaries include Holroyd Parramatta Goannas Junior AFL Club, Liverpool Hospital Colon Cancer Research, Parramatta Two Blues Rugby Club, Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off the Streets, Kokoda Youth Leadership, The 21st Century Empowerment Project, and more.

Julia Finn MP, a number of Cumberland Council Councillors, MRSL Club Directors and Management, and representatives from the Club Grant recipients were also present on the night.

Attendees on the night were entertained by MC Buddy Goodes along with Amber Lawrence, who is a multi-Golden Guitar winning Australian singer-songwriter who captures the nation’s attention and heart with her uplifting songs of self-belief, love, family and ordinary Australians.
